Home Staging Riverside County, CA

From Waterbed Nightmare.....to Sweet Dreams!

I recently finished home staging an occupied home in Murrieta that had a master bedroom that was challenging.  Why, would the master bedroom be challenging, you ask?  Well, this bedroom had a waterbed in it!  Not that there is anything wrong with a waterbed....but this one was a little sad.  It looked like it was sinking.  Master bedrooms need to have a retreat like appeal so the challenge was now on!

   Ok here is the "Before":

YIKES is right!  What on earth am I going to do with this Master Bedroom waterbed.  I planned on adding artwork , lamps, decorative pillow and greenery but I knew it would not enhance the room enough to distract from the sinking waterbed.  So, I asked for a few opinions from friends and stagers and some said "It is what it is." While others said I should replace it with a REAL bed.

I tossed and turned (not in bed) with the idea of replacing the bed but I didn't want to interfere with the home seller's lifestyle too much.  I understand it is HARD to live in a staged home and I wanted to make the experience as easy as possible.

Then I got the AH-HA moment.  And Viola...here is the after.......

Yes, this is the same waterbed BUT with an air mattress on top! Simply as that!  Sometimes I find that I think too hard.  :)

The homeowner's loved the idea and are more then willing to add it to the bed every morning.  They understand the value of staging their home for today's market.

Looks great.  I'm amazed at what a difference staging can make.

It looks great.  Home staging definitely works, especially if the seller has 'difficult' furniture.

Many hours of lost sleep because of thinking too much.  Sometimes I wish I could just "punch out" at the end of the day so I could let my brain rest!

A wonderful, simple solution that looks great!  Nice work!

What a clever idea. Your staging of that room is such a total transformation. What a great job! I'm sure the buyers won't have to fuss with the air bed for long!

You are just so good!!! I love those before and after shots!

That looks fantastic!  I had a client one with a huge waterbed, you know the ones that have a bizillion drawers underneath and you need a step stool to get into the bed!  I told them to remove it.  Luckily for you, you had a normal sized one and came up with a very clever way to improve upon it.  I'll remember that for next time, should there be one.  Thanks for sharing!

Stacy & Jackie - Thanks!  Staging does make a huge difference in both occupied and vacant properties.

Dottie - When I first saw this bedroom I was immediately spinning my wheels trying to find a solution that would improve the first impression of this space.  Difficult and dated furniture can really be improved with the help of a professional stager! Thanks for commenting.

Lisa - Tell me about it!  I live, eat and sleep staging.  Thanks for the compliment.

Ricardo- Glad you were able to cruise over to this post.  Thanks for the enthusiastic "WOW!"  You made my day. I agree that B&A's are a great visual marketing tool that can't be done enough.  It really helps the naysayer's understand the importance of Home Staging.

Charity- Yup...sometimes I get a clever idea and surprise myself! Ha!  I hope you are right and that this property sells quickly.  The clients were a great to work with in this transformation.

Charles- Awww shucks!  You got me blushing again.  Thanks!

Judy- Thanks!  I was actually considering telling the clients to get rid of the waterbed when the husband told me that he needed it for his back.  They actually had another stager tell them that they had to remove it.  Maybe this is why I won the bid.  Who knows.  Whenever I can use the clients own furniture and accessories it is a Win-Win!

Marci- Awwwww.  You are too kind Girlfriend.  That means a lot to me coming from you and the many other AR home stagers.  :)

Kathy N. - WOW!  Thank you once again for the feature.  I really appreciate it.

Kathy P. - I have to pat myself on the back for this one!  Ha!  It was a great easy idea.  Much easier then draining the bed and removing the solid wood bed.  My back is aching just thinking about the alternative.

Fernando - Thanks for noticing.  I did take the dresser up against the french doors and moved it to the dining room to use as a buffet.  I feel another blog coming on. :)

What a difference and how nice to have the homeowner be so cooperative!  A fairly simple solution that is day and night!   Woo Hoo!!!!  (love the bedding, btw...did you bring that in or the HO purchase it?)
Posted by Abby Roselli, Staten Island Home Stager (ALR Home Staging and Showcasing, LLC) over 12 years ago

Wow. I thought you must have put more water in it.

It doesn't even look like the same bed.

Such a simple solution that I would never have thought of.

This was a great solution that considered the client's needs and turned out so well.  Yea!

Stephanie - Hi AZ Girlfriend!  Thanks for the kind words. :)

Abby - Having the homeowner on your side is BIG and really helps when staging an occupied home.  I was lucky that they contacted me.  I have found that clients that contact you are ready to take on any challenge.

I did bring the bedding.  Their comforter is tucked away into the side rails of the waterbed and mine was placed on top.  They are keeping their pillow in a hall closet just outside their bedroom.

TLW - It is great of you to stop on by!  You're right, it does look like we added more water.  I am actually pleased that it doesn't really look like a waterbed anymore.  Would you have known if I didn't tell you?  ;)

Kathy R. - Thanks!  I was happy to help the client without disrupting their day to day(night) life too much!

Michelle- Thank you.  The iron wall art works well over many comforters.  They are one of my fav's.

Jackson - Coming from one of my favorite stagers your kind words mean a lot to me!  Thank you.

Carole - Thanks! It was a great idea.  Sometimes I surprise myself! :)

Connie - It really did turn out perfect.  The client was thrilled as well.  They understand the importance of 1st impressions and are willing to add the air mattress to the bed every morning.  Gotta love them!

You go Janice, great move here. It's scary sometimes when we get that Ah HA moment, huh? Yes tossing and turning until it comes to us is what keeps us on the cutting edge. It was great that they agreed to make the bed like this every morning.

I LOVE THE PIECE over the bed, what is that? Great statement

Phyllis- Ahhh...."tossing and turning"  a staging requirement that is sometimes hard to handle.  The Ah HA moments are truly priceless.  :)

Glad you like the piece over the bed. It is a wrought iron gem I found at Ross.  A store I know you love as much as me.

Maureen- Thank you very much.  This house had a contingency offer the first week based on selling the buyer's current property.  I will be sure to let you know if and when this property sells.  :)

The bed is great, but even more I LOVE that you moved the dresser away from the door & had it open for the photos!  That speaks volumes about wanting to go see what's out the door!  What more can you ask for in a photo?

Melissa - Thank you for commenting and noticing the removal of the dresser from the bedroom.  It was blocking the door and the view of the tennis courts and pool!  Now it is a "buffet" in the dining room! :)
