Going Green wall to wall carpet

Sweeeeet!!!! Right?  :)

We all LOVE going GREEN!

So what's the BIG DEAL?

Why do all these Home Buyer's get sooooo FRAZZLED when they come to look at me?

Don't they see all I have to offer?  My Open floor plan, crown molding, 14ft ceilings, views from every window, custom pool.....

Hello???? Aren't they hip and up to date on the trend?

That's when my wise Agent, yes I have an Agent, told me that I need to have a Stylist come visit me to dress me up!

What! I don't need no stinkin' Stylist...Home Stager....Primper....whatever you want to call it help me get dressed!!

I'm a BIG Boy now.........All 4 bed, 5 full baths, 5, 495 sqft of ME!!!

Sheesssh! You want to dress me??!! Baby, I don't think you could even get your hands around me if you tried!!

Well, so I was overruled, and in came this fast talking Ex-Nu Yawka to tell me how to dress!

Boy, was I WRONG! I will gladly eat crow.....organic crow of course! ;)

You SEE, this Stylist/Pro Home Stager sure knew what she was doing!

Check out how she dressed me up!!!

Wow Janice! What a transformation. I'm not anit-green, but in this case I may be! What an incredible difference. It went from a home that looked very dated to a modern, desirable one. Great job!

Posted by Shelley Roufs (Simply Staged Homes ) about 6 years ago

Thanks Shelley! I too, love green, just in smaller doses, unless it of course if it is in my wallet! :)

Posted by Janice Sutton, Home Stager - Temecula Murrieta (1st Stage Property Transformations ) about 6 years ago

Janice - Well, there's "green" and then there's "hunter dated green"!  Your big boy sure looks handsome now, all done up.  What a difference.

Posted by Sally Weatherley, Vancouver Home Staging, Home Stager Vancouver, B.C (EXIT STAGE RIGHT) about 6 years ago

Hey Janice!  LOVE this!  Very clever! What a difference after the green went away.

Posted by Teresa Meyer, Home Staging Cincinnati-OH. (Stage a Star Staging & Consulting Services) about 6 years ago

Sally - You are sooooo right Girlfriend!! I love all the new sage mossy spa-like greens but hunter had to go!!  I am also quite proud of my big boy!!  <blushing> :)

Posted by Janice Sutton, Home Stager - Temecula Murrieta (1st Stage Property Transformations ) about 6 years ago

Teresa - Thanks Sista Stager!!  Since the first time I visited this property i labeled it "The Green House" which was such a shame because it really is a beautiful estate!!  We didn't have everyone else labeling it too!!

Yes, there is quite a difference once the carpet was changed.  So glad the Seller's finally understood the importance of this investment!! :)

Kathy - Ha ha! Very true! I called it a Sea of Green but I like your analogy better! Thanks!!

Posted by Janice Sutton, Home Stager - Temecula Murrieta (1st Stage Property Transformations ) about 6 years ago

Sharon - I know, it was everywhere!! This house is such a beautiful home I knew we could show the potential with new carpet and staging! So glad the Buyer's got on-board!  Thanks!

Posted by Janice Sutton, Home Stager - Temecula Murrieta (1st Stage Property Transformations ) about 6 years ago

Janice--All I noticed in the before photos was the carpet--which I am sure potential buyers would have too.  Such a dramatic difference with the neutral carpeting.

Posted by Janet Jones, Home Staging, Interior Redesign Kihei, Maui, Hawaii (Just Your Style Interiors, LLC) about 6 years ago

Appeal to the masses!

Pepto-Pink is a cool color, but there's a reason GM doesn't make it one of the usual color choices. (No offense to any MK reps)

Your son may think black walls and glow-in-the-dark paint is cool, but your prospect is going to think the room has bad vibes and may be possessed.

When buyers walk into a house that has personal choices all over it, they most likely aren't going to see the potential, they will probably think, "Well, we'll have to replce the carpet ($$), we'll have re-paint ($$$), those 70's appliances will have to go ($$$$)."

Posted by Warren Veach (State Continuing Education (StateCE)) about 6 years ago

This post is too cute Janice! The only green you'll/the sellers will be seeing now is in the form of cash! $$$

Posted by Karen Otto, Plano Home Staging, Dallas Home Staging, www.homes (Home Star Staging) about 6 years ago

Janet - Yup the GREEN monster ruled in the Before pictures! With so many Home Buyer's looking online first we needed to replace the carpet.  A pricless investment!

Posted by Janice Sutton, Home Stager - Temecula Murrieta (1st Stage Property Transformations ) about 6 years ago

Warren - Thanks for stopping by!  Do go on!! :)  You are saying all the right things!  Actually, the Seller's were planning on offering an allowance. Allowance Schmallowance!!  Buyer's want move in ready!!

Posted by Janice Sutton, Home Stager - Temecula Murrieta (1st Stage Property Transformations ) about 6 years ago

Karen - Exactly!!  That is the kind of GREEN we all want to see!!  Now this property is making all the other properties for sale GREEN with ENVY! Thanks gf! :)

What a great blog Janice!  Done with great wit and honesty!  I think I have been formally introduced to you, Mr. Green carpet;  unfortunately the clients didn't see the value in putting $ into making $. I am going to share this on my Facebook Business Page---love it!

Posted by Ginny Truyens (Feels Like Home 2 ME) about 6 years ago

Vegas Bob - Good for you!!  Love tree huggers!!! Thank you so much for the feature! We need to spread the other GREEN word - $$$ and by marketing your investment correctly you will IN THE GREEN!! :)

Ginny - Thank you!!  As Professional Home Stager's we have to come em' like we see em"!  Thanks for spreading the Home Staging word!! :)

Posted by Janice Sutton, Home Stager - Temecula Murrieta (1st Stage Property Transformations ) about 6 years ago

You were lucky to have sellers who saw the value in the change.  The sea of green carpet gave the whole house a dated look, whereas, your updates pull it, willingly or otherwise into the 21st century.  Sometimes the sellers are not the ones needing convincing.  Sometimes it's other agents.

Oh thank you , thank you, thank you Janice!!! I have had to stage around that same carpet many times...not easy! So much better when they change it out...buyers will be smiling!

HI Janice, the green has got to go every time. great post and one that I suggest  agents should book mark to show their clients.

Posted by Michelle Finnamore, Preparing your property for sale (Vaughan and Toronto GTA) about 6 years ago

Geri - Thank you!! Actually, I was thrilled when the RE Agent called me to discuss a Home Staging Consultation.  She gave me a heads up on her concerns and what she thought we needed to accomplish!  I had no problem being the "Bad Cop" when it comes to helping Home Seller's reach their GOAL and SELL their property!! :)  Yes, if only all agents were as wise as you and this REA! One day....  :)

Kathy - Thank you Sista Home Stager!!  Ha ha....I couldn't imagine waking up to that every morning either!!  Luckily, neither does the new Home Owner!!  The Seller's were so happy they even asked if I would help them with their new home!!! :) Thanks so much for the FEATURE!!  Hope it helps many!!

That green reminded me of some applicances I saw in a house last week. You may be too young to remember, Harvest Gold, a staple of the '70s. Some of those babies are still working.

Posted by Wayne Johnson, San Antonio REALTOR, San Antonio Homes For Sale (Coldwell Banker D'Ann Harper REALTORS®) about 6 years ago

Janice - great post!  It looks like you used the homeowner's furnishings.  This really shows what a change the carpet made without having to bring in all new furnishings.  Of course, your strategic placement of the furnishings adds to the change.  I say these home sellers got a good deal and a good job from you.

Posted by Michelle Drewry, Realtor - Find Arcadia Ca Homes For Sale (Century 21 Masters ) about 6 years ago

Wayne - I know exactly what you are talking about with those 70's colors! While I love avocados I am not fond of Avocado green appliances! Yikes!! Totally date the space!

Michelle - Thanks Sista Stager!  Yes, I rearranged some of the  home owners furnishing and added some updated pieces as needed.  We also added some updated art work and a few accessories. The home owners were thrilled with the results and are ready to move on!! :)

Jane - I agree! No, I do not think so any more.  My client did the "green thing" years ago!  Totally outdated the space! Welcome to 2011 :)

Great post! It's funny that we've seen this exact carpet in a few homes recently. It was certainly the fashionable way to go in the late 80's. Hope it never makes a comeback. Thanks for doing your part in eliminating it from another house. What a difference!

David - Thanks! While viewing this property for the 1st time I was already working on this blog in my head! Yes, let's hope bold color carpets never back a comeback!!  Let's keep them in the Vegas casinos!

I do love green, but too much can happen.  You did a lovely job!

Posted by Marge Piwowarski, Phoenix AZ Horse Property, LLC (Phoenix AZ Horse Property) almost 6 years ago

You did a great job!  Was it difficult to convince the client that the green had to go?  I had a smaller home with similar carpet listed, and all the seller could say was "but it's still in great shape" and it was.  But no one wanted green carpet...

Posted by Karen Steed, Associate Broker Haralson Realty (Tallapoosa, Bremen, Waco, Buchanan, Temple, Carrollton) almost 6 years ago

Marge - Thank you.  Exactly! I love green too! However we need to keep it as an accent color......unless of course it is in our WALLET!! Then we can let it stand proud and be LOUD! :)

Posted by Janice Sutton, Home Stager - Temecula Murrieta (1st Stage Property Transformations ) almost 6 years ago

Karen - Thanks! At first it was a bit challenging.  However, this client had listed their property twice before with no offers. They wanted to offer and "allowance" but I showed them similar  Before & After carpet pic's and they GOT IT!  They were thrilled when they received an offer! Which of course SOLD is the GOAL!!  Feel free to share my pictures with your clients!

Posted by Janice Sutton, Home Stager - Temecula Murrieta (1st Stage Property Transformations ) almost 6 years ago

lol, I have to agree with you on this.

Green carpet or bright green walls are not on my list of favorite features of the house, as well.
